Subject: Black cows and ginger beer



The following was sent to me by my colleague Dick Demers in response to Mike

Picone's note on Black Cows (which he says are best make in August with Dad's

Old Fashioned Rootbeer). I did not know what they were, myself, but he did

take me down a reverie with a rediscovery of Green River last summer (I

encountered them in Illinois, not Texas) in Portland. Ginger beer, anyone?





Mike--I am also an Oregonian--and Black Cows are Root Beer floats.

By the way, I went into Walgreen (I guess we should not write Walgreen's

anymore) and asked for ginger beer. The young man said that I could

not buy beer before 10:00. I said that ginger beer is no more beer

than ginger ale is ale. He looked at me as if I the whole thing was

my fault. Dick
