Growing up in California in the 40's, we played "Annie Annie Over" (a

phonologically degenerate form of "Anty Anty High Over"). We also had

simpler game rules. When you caught or otherwise retrieved the ball, you

ran around to tag the person who threw it, and then it was your chance

to throw. I've never heard anyone call "Pig Tail" for a miss. We'd just

try again.
