Peter Tamony recorded an example of "gestanko", i.e., pretty gestanko

= pretty bad. Life Magazine, 15 December 1942, page 89, carried

something about the use of the phrase "pretty gestanko" in the motion

picture Ball of Fire, starring Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck.



Surely Letterman is not making some play on the common "finito"

meaning finished, kaput.
