Subject: PC Language: Seth's List

It happened to me again while reading Seth's wonderful Jeremaiad on the

history of PC. Except where the euphemisms/revisionisms have become

institutionalized, I can't tell parody from actual use. For example, does

anyone ever say "vertically challenged" without making a joke? Hell, I'm

short and have suffered for it (ask Dukakis), but I can't say "vertically

challenged" without smirking. I am also "follically/follicularly/follicly

challenged," but that challenge has been an asset in some ways. Baldness

comes with a kind of dignity unattainable with a hair

piece/toupe/toup/rug--or textured spray paint.
