How would you parse "God rest ye merry gentlemen"? so that {ye} is a nominal

plural rather than dative/accus as object of {bless}?



[May] God [grant] rest [to] ye, merry gentlemen" is my gloss of the hymn, but

that leaves problems still. Is this a case of confused case marking by

Victorian pseudo-medievals or what?
