Way back several lifetimes ago I got blonded for the first time --

over the Christmas break in 1964-65, when I was teaching at one

SW Mo. State COllege (now University, of course). Among other delightful

courses, I was, of course, teaching freshman comp.



Sometime in mid-Jan, a colleague tald me about one of my former

students, who had come to tell him that "Miss DUmas" has got herself

"blonded" over the break. First time I had heard it as a verb.

FWIW, the student was black and male.
