And what, pray tell, is wrong with VAHZ for "vase"? And if you do prefer the
EH vowel, then is the final consonant S or Z (that's "zed," of course!)?
One of my students once told me that the line in her family was that if it
cost more than $50.00 (Canadian), it was a VAHZ, otherwise, a VEHZ.
(Sorry this is so late a reply - I'm just catching up after Reading Break, when
 I obviously didn't!)
