I "do laundry."

My mother, incidentally, used to "do the wash."

P.S. Am I the only one here who says "wash clothes" instead of "to the

laundry/wash/whatever"?? I have never thought of this as an idiolectal

habit. I thought it was "normal."

That reminds me of the phrase my mother used to use for grocery shopping:

"food-shopping."

No one I know now uses this phrase.

Anyone heard it?

(My mother was born and raised in Baltimore, 1946. I've lived in

and around Chicago my whole life.)
