When the entry for _sputnik_ was dramatically added to _The Thorndike-Barnhart

Comprehensive Dictionary_ (Oct. 1957), the space for it came at the expense of

the entries for _spur wheel_ which was deleted and _squad car_ which was

reduced from three lines to one.
