Subject: Question about "fixing to"

Someone on another list has asked the ff. question. If you have the

answer on the tip of your tongue, please share. Thanks.

"We say "fixin' to" around here. I'm not a native Oklahoman, so I

didn't say it for years. But now I kind of like it. It slides off the

tongue so easily "getting ready to" or "about to" or "preparing to"

feels like a mouthful of marbles now.

A question: Does this little phrase, since it is southern, have

english origins? Can you trace it back to someplace in particular? I've

been curious for years."
