Subject: Re: statements spoken as if it were a question
There was an article on this pitch characteristic of Southern English in
_American Speech_ sometime in the very early 1980s. I forget who the
author was. The article was a useful eye-opener for a new sojourner in
Deep Dixie.
By the way, I was heating up some leftovers in the microwave last night at
my mother-in-law's, and I noticed that the Look Out Moon Pies box had a
serving suggestion: place a Moon Pie in the microwave for a few seconds
and eat it warm. It suddenly occurred to me that a s'more was a campfire
version of the classic moon pie.
