I apologize in advance for opening up a thread that others might

conceivable find silly, objectionable, or statistically unsound, and look

forward (tentatively) to any responses, or flames, either personal or on

the list.



Since nobody has responded yet (at least on the list), I'm responding

simply to say that I don't find the topic at all silly or objectionable

and that I don't see how discussing such matters necessarily requires

statistical soundness.



One problem you may run into with this topic is the different personalities

of different lists. That was one of many problems I faced when writing

a rather wispy paper on net language in the late '80s.
