I first heard this term ("case quarter") in eastern North Carolina in the
early 1970s. A friend of mine--native of near Wilmington whose ancestors
moved to the area in colonial days--said how weird and alien he found the
expression--had heard it in White Lake, NC (also eastern NC) from teenagers.
My friend was in his early 20s at that time.
