The largest green space at the central campus here at Yale is called simply

Cross Campus. No one has mentioned the U. of Michigan and its "Diag"

(DIE-aeg).

Sounds plausible. But it may be worth noting that the same scheme held in

New Haven--even now, the part of downtown below and to the left of the "c" in

Seth's chart is called "the Ninth Square"; it's been the site of recent urban

urban renewal. Yet, as I noted before, our "c" is called The Green.
