"Walk up the street," however would be going north, up a slope, or walking towards a position that the speaker is psychologically identifying with. This last one is similar to "I'm coming!" in response to a dinner call, where the speaker puts themself (sorry, I like it) psychologically in the physical location of the rest of the family.
