I thought it was dumb to have to say this phrase which didn't make sense (Tolkien, in the first chapter of the Hobbit has a nice little piece on the various meanings of Good morning", or is it Good Day?) so I always said plain old "Hi" and still do today. I've found it interesting that some people are willing to give a Hi back to me, but others insist on saying Good morning. Dale Coye The College of NJ
