Re: Rednecks, I recall reading an anthropological study of Redneck culture back
in the early part of this decade. Having grown up hearing the term used as a
negative label for those southern whites who were "not quite like us," I was
surprised by the author's unselfconscious use of the term. For the author, like
for many on this list, the word did not have a primarily racial connotation.
