When I first heard it, I thought it really seemed like a strange expression, but I discovered that I soon was using the expression myself on the basketball court-- routinely. "My mistake" and "my fault" seem too formal now. Like Melissa, I don't use it in other places. Oh, by the way, I have never heard it used after a foul, only after some other kind of mistake.
