Subject: Re: English-only
In response to Michael Farrell (mmfarr01[AT SYMBOL GOES HERE]morehead-st.edu), I could
equally well ask why the leader of Russia, or France, or Japan should
have to communicate her foreign policy in English. If the leader of
the US is speaking to the leader of a non-English-speaking country,
either one of them will have to use a language other than that of his
or her country, or they'll have to use translators. Why shouldn't the
United States elect a few multi-lingual leaders.
And yes, I think English is a fine _primary_ language for the United
States. But that doesn't mean it should be the only language we use:
Spanish, Navaho, Cherokee, French (to pick a few examples from among
our great wealth) are also good languages.
