As for "Candy Bars", I think it's just another American Slang catch

all term for anything sweet to eat that's not a cookie or cake.In Great

No. Yesterday, for example, I went down to the vending machine to get

a candy bar (I was planning on getting a Milky Way), but I changed my

mind at the last minute and got a bag of M&Ms instead. M&Ms are not a

candy bar; a Milky Way is a candy bar. A candy bar has to be a bar --

a loosely defined bar in that it's possible to have a square candy bar

or possibly even a roundish one, although I can't think of any examples

of that. A bag of small items like M&Ms can't be a candy bar.
