Living in New York City, the topic of language and accent always comes up=

I have found that the English, Irish, Scots and the one Welsh man I know =

the word "flat" to describe the American accent. As a group, they also te=

to believe that we use simpler, more monosyllabic vocabulary.
There's something else, though. It's that innate American ability to mang=

any other language they try to speak, although I should add that there is=

anecdotal evidence that suggest to me that, well, it's a lasting remnant =

our British heritage.=20
