Subject: barefoot & pregnant



In my long-lost youth I knew this expression as "keep her barefoot in

winter and pregnant in summer", and I supposed the idea was that this

is how you keep your wife from running around. It must be a northern

variation, as being barefoot in the winter in Florida, say, would not

be much of a deterrent.
