BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME

I went to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. Unlike the

baseball hall in Cooperstown, there is no library to speak of. The librarian

wasn't even in. I wasn't shown a single book or article of hoop slang.

The internet showed that Springfield College had "Miscellaneous

pamphlets on basketball, 1890-1950." I was very interested in

this--basketball wasn't invented in 1890! James Naismith invented it in the

winter of 1891, right? I got all hot and bothered about the 1890 date!!

It was wrong!

The James Naismith story is entirely correct.

Oh, well.
