It is with great sadness that we share the news that Dr. Ronald Butters passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2021, aged 81, after a long battle with cancer. He is remembered with great fondness and affection.
His many academic and professional accomplishments include great contributions and participation in the activities of this society. Besides being a mentor and friend to many, and a light-hearted presence at every gathering, he was editorial referee for American Speech, 1980–81; member of the editorial advisory committee, American Speech, 1983–90; editor of American Speech, 1996–2007; general editor, American Dialect Society publications and editor of Publication of the American Dialect Society (PADS, the monograph series), 2007–10; and he published 34 articles and reviews in American Speech.
