Longtime American Dialect Society member Dr. Jeutonne Patten Brewer, 76, a resident of Jamestown, NC, passed away on Tuesday April 5, 2016. Jeutonne received her B.A. from Harding University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from UNC at Chapel Hill. An Associate Professor of English specializing in linguistics, she taught at UNC-Greensboro for 30 years, serving as Assistant Dean of Arts and Sciences. Jeutonne’s main scholarly interest grew out of her dissertation work on the WPA ex-slave narratives. In addition to several articles, she also published a bibliography, “The Federal Writers’ Project: A Bibliography.” An active member of of the American Dialect Society and the Southeastern Conference on Linguistics (SECOL), she presented papers before the three conferences on Linguist Variety in the South.
